Although the amount contained is very small many popular soft drinks contain sodium benzoate (an antimicrobial agent) and ascorbic acid (vitamin C). Under certain conditions of light and heat exposurethese two products can have a reaction which wil creat benzene. This coumpound ispressent in car emissions and is known to cause cancer.
